Sedummats
SEDUMMATS
Do you want a low-maintenance green roof? Then choose a roof with sedum mats. A sedum mat consists of fat plants on a substrate layer of four centimetres. Grease plants have the pleasant property that they thrive in all weather conditions and can go without water for a very long time. They retain water in their leaves and use it in summer. You can order fully-grown sedum mats from Sedumroofshop. This turns your grey roof into a durable and low-maintenance green roof. The result depends on the substructure. Sedumroofshop is an expert in laying a high-quality substructure on top of the sedum mats you want. Laying roofs is a profession. This also applies to green roofs.

FLOWERING SEDUM MATS
There is a wide variety of sedum plants with which you can create a beautiful flowering sedum roof. This concerns about 50 species out of a total of 250 species of sedum plants that exist. Vegetable roofs usually incorporate the following six species of sedum plants into a sedum mat:
- Sedum acre
- Sedum album Coral Carpet
- Sedum hispanic
- Sedum lydium
- Sedum oreganum
- Sedum sexangulare
Each type of sedum blooms for about five weeks. Because each species flowers in a different period, with the right combination of species you can create a sedum roof that blooms from April to September. And that in all kinds of different colours, so you get a nice colour palette on your roof. So a green roof is certainly not just green!
SEDUM MATS
The beauty of sedum mats is that you don't have to think about the way your plants get onto your green roof. They are all already incorporated in the mat, in the right pattern. What's more, the fat plants in a sedum mat are already 90% full-grown by the time they are placed on your roof. In order to transport them, sedum mats are rolled up like a turf roll. These mats are then rolled out again on your roof and you have your green roof. But before even one sedum mat is rolled out, there has already been the necessary preparatory work on your roof. A sedum roof can only function if the substructure of your green roof tip is in perfect working order. Including the sedum itself, we also call this substructure structure. The construction of a high-quality sedum roof consists of the following layers:
- protective foil
- drainage layer
- anti-root filter fleece
- substrate
- vegetation layer
The vegetation layer concerns the sedum itself, so the sedum mats are the last (top) layer to be laid on your green roof.
SEDUM MATS MAINTAINED
A sedum roof is maintenance-friendly, but not maintenance-free. Plants and shoots (such as acorns) of trees can end up between the sedum and weeds can also grow there. Periodically check your sedum roof for anything that does not belong there and then remove it. Also keep the edges of your sedum roof clean and free of vegetation. This is necessary for good drainage. Trim the sedum along the edges of your green roof if the fat plants grow too far. Gravel on the roof edge is effective in keeping it free of vegetation and clutter. Rainwater sinks through the gravel.
The gravel therefore does not obstruct the water drainage on your roof. Check twice a year the gutters and downpipes that drain the rainwater from your green roof. Keep them clean and make sure that the water cannot accumulate. Make sure that no substrate granules from your green roof get into the downpipes and that the plants do not grow against them.
